QUESTION: How can I get more job orders through email? 

The Power of The 9-Word Email

One of the best techniques is The 9-word Email. It was not my idea, but it is relatively simple. You might even have seen us use this technique when we run an event.

“Hey, we are getting a small group of recruiting firm owners together. Are you interested?”

That is it. There are no logos, big PSs, or background colors. It is just a plain black-and-white email. If you know you are talking to a VP of software engineering, you can email them, hopefully having their first name,

“Hey Mary, are you still looking for help filling that software engineering position?”

Targeting the Right Person in Your Niche

You might go, well, Mike, I don’t know if they have a software engineering position. It does not matter. They did at one point. You will get some responses. This is the best one for business building. Make sure you are sending it to the right person, not HR, the right person in your niche.

“Are you still looking for help filling the XYZ position?”

I would not even sign it, “Mike Gionta,” because Mike Gionta is already in the email line.

“Thoughts?
-Mike”

Engaging Clients Through Dialogue

That simple. Try it. Our clients who try it will engage in a bunch of dialogue. The one caution I would make to all of you is you will get a lot of responses. Refrain from answering their questions in email. Call them as follow-ups. You can pick up the phone and go:

“Hey Joe, I just saw you asked this question. I thought I would put a voice with it so we can dig a little bit deeper, but your question was ___, ____, ____. Call me back. I’ve got the answer.”

Do not leave the answer in the voicemail, either. Get them on the phone.
