6a010536babee3970c010536f306f3970b You heard me right!  Time to get off of your “butts”.  That request is two fold.  1) Get off your ‘buts’, = “BUT my industry is laying people off, BUT my people won’t get on the phone.”  and , 2) Get off your posterior!

I have been speaking with 2 types of recruiting firm owners recently.  Type 1, the most common, is the victim.  “No one is hiring, every thing has stopped!”   Whhhaaaaaa!

Type 2, is “Mike, OK, times are tough, How do I profit from this type of economy?”  These tend to be my clients.  These people are focused on opportunity, not “lack”.

If you are Type 1, nothing I will say will change your mind until you accept this economy “is what it is”.

Of course, many Type 1’s will say, “my industry, clients, candidates, geography, etc. are DIFFERENT”.  For those M.A.S.H and Colonel Potter fans out there I say Horse Hockey!

As I said above there are 2 types of people out there.  One type is focused on everything wrong going  on around them right now.  They are focused on what’s wrong with the economy, wrong with their niche, wrong with their hiring managers, etc.  Basically, they are focused on the things they can not control.

What happens when you focus on things you can not control?

That’s right, pure and utter frustration.  The other thing? My experience is you make poor business decisions because you are desperate.

The below excerpt is from the book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, by T.Harv Eker:

“In our courses we teach that “no thought lives in your head rent-free.” Each thought you have we either be an investment or a cost. It will either move you toward happiness and success or away from it. It will either empower you or disempower you.  That’s why it is imperative you choose your thoughts and beliefs wisely.

Remember, thoughts lead to feelings, which lead to actions, which lead to results. You can choose to think and act like rich people do and therefore create the results that rich people create. “

This is a great book to get your head on “straight.”  Buy it!  Just fifteen freakin’ bucks!

Focus on “lack”, i.e. lack of business, lack of job orders, etc and you get a LACK of business and a lack of job orders.

OR

I invite you to join the second group of people I know.  These people are seeking oportunities, they are focused on making money, basically, they are focused on those things they can control.  They CAN control daily and weekly activity.

Think about it.  12 placements at $20k is a decent year.  Twice that is a great year for most recruiters.  That is 24 placements.  So we are talking 12 to 24 placements in a marketplace where our weak competitors will begin leaving the business in droves.  I don’t care how bad it gets out there, ANYONE  can come up with a creative plan to make 12 to 24 placements this year.

You have a choice.  You will end up in either group.  Make no concious choice and you will likely end up in the first group, the victim’s group.  These recruiters will rely on the whims of the economy for their success.  You see, you don’t have to plant weeds for them to appear in your garden, they show up by default when the garden isn’t tended.

Weed your garden of negative thoughts and focus on growing healthy vegetables.  When you put a seed in the dirt, you know if you water it, in time you will have vegetables.  Make your plans, make your calls, tend your garden and success will be yours.  Keep your focus and keep the faith!
